Zhifeng Shao

Dr. Zhifeng Shao is a K.C. Wong Chair Professor at SJTU, and Associate Director at Zhiyuan Innovative Research Center (ZIRC) at SJTU. In 1982, he was selected to enter the CUSPEA program organized by T.D. Lee through competitive examinations. He received his Ph.D. degree in Physics in 1988 from University of Chicago.  Professor Shao was a faculty member in Physiology and Biophysics at University of Virginia from 1989-2009 (Full Professor in 1998; Professor Emeritus in 2010). He was elected as AAAS Fellow in 2000 and AIMBE Fellow in 2016. He was also a holder of a Nationally Appointed Professor by the PRC. Professor Shao served as the Dean of Shanghai Center for Systems Biomedicine from 2009 to 2013, and was an Associate Dean of SJTU School of BME from 2013-2019 and the Director of the BME Postdoctoral Fellow Program. Professor Shao had served on many US review panels, including NSF and NIH study sections, as well as review panels in China. His group has published more than 180 peer reviewed articles in multiple disciplines, such as single molecule biophysics, functional genomics, structural biology and bio-instrumentaiton. Professor Shao also serves on several editorial boards, such as Journal of Microscopy and Biosciences Trends, and is an associate editor for Nanomedicine NBM.
