Dr. Shanbao Tong is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Associate Dean of SJTU School of BME. He received his Ph.D. degree in BME from SJTU in 2002. From 2000 - 2001, he was a research trainee in Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and from 2002-2005, he received postdoctoral training in Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. His Ph.D. dissertation was awarded 'Top 100 Distinguished Ph.D. Dissertations of China' in 2004. Dr. Tong joined the faculty of SJTU as an Associate Professor in 2005, and became a Professor in 2009. He established the neural engineering laboratory. Dr. Tong is the founding Chair of the IEEE EMBS Shanghai chapter, which was awarded the Best New Chapter of IEEE EMBS (2013). He is also the founding Chair of the IEEE EMBS International Summer School of Neural Engineering starting from 2013 biennially. Dr. Tong is an active Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Neural Systems and Rehabilitation Engineering, Associate Editor of Medical & Biological Engineering & Computing, Asia-pacific Regional Editor of IEEE Pulse, Board member of IEEE EMBS Technical Committee on Neural Engineering, and Chinese society of Neural Engineering. He has served many IEEE EMBS conferences as Session Chairs or Co-Chairs (EMBC since 2005), international program committee (NER'13) or organization committee (NER'15). His research interests include neural signal processing, cognitive neural engineering, optical neurovascular imaging, brain connectivity and stroke rehabilitation.
