Prof. Zhifeng Shao

Dr. Zhifeng Shao is a K.C. Wong Chair Professor at SJTU, and Associate Dean of SJTU School of BME. He received his Ph.D. degree in Physics in 1988 from University of Chicago. He was elected as AAAS Fellow in 2000. Professor Shao was a faculty member in Physiology and Biophysics at University of Virginia from 1989-2009 (Full Professor in 1998; Professor Emeritus in 2010). Professor Shao served as the Dean of Shanghai Center for Systems Biomedicine at SJTU from 2009 to 2013, and is currently an Associate Dean of SJTU School of BME. Professor Shao had served on many US review panels, including NSF and NIH study sections, and is a member on the advisory panels at NSFC and the '973 program' of Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology since he returned to China. His group has published more than 130 peer reviewed articles. Professor Shao also serves on several editorial boards, such as Nanomedicine NBM and Journal of Microscopy and Biosciences Trends. Professor Shao's research interests include: Structural biophysics of pore forming proteins; functional genomics of gastric cancer; and single molecule imaging and instrumentation.
