Dr. Hongchen Gu is a Professor and Director of the Area of Nano-Biomaterials, SJTU School of BME. Dr. Hongchen Gu received his Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering from East China University of Science and Technology. He had worked as the Director of Key Laboratory of Nano Materials, Chinese Ministry of Education. From July 2001 to January 2005, Dr. Gu acted as the Director of SJTU Engineering Research Center for Nano Science and Technology. Dr. Gu has obtained many awards, including Premier Outstanding Scientist Award, the First class Innovation Prize issued by Shanghai Government, and Outstanding Trans-Century Young Scientist Award. The results of his research have been reported in over 150 publications and 50 talks throughout the world. Dr. Gu is one of nine committee members for Chinese High Tech Programs of Nano Materials, and one of the ten committee members for Chinese High Tech Programs of Functional Materials. He is also the President of Shanghai Society of Particle Technology. With more than twenty years study in nano materials field, Professor Gu has focused his research on the dispersion of functional nano particles in polymer matrix and biological and clinical applications of nano particles. Recently, Dr. Gu has led a group in synthesizing superparamanetic nano particles and studying the biomedical applications of the particles.
