报告摘要
The major emerging application of MRE in clinical practice is brain imaging. Growing evidence indicates that preoperative assessment of the mechanical stiffness of meningiomas and skull-base tumors has great practical value in surgical planning. Other research has shown that brain stiffness is a novel biomarker of neurodegenerative disease, with spatial patterns that reflect the known regional distributions of different dementing diseases. MRE-based biomarkers in malignant brain tumors are correlated significantly with histologic stage and with genetic mutation status, offering the prospect that “mechanogenomics” may serve as an alternative to brain biopsy in the future.
主讲人简介
Richard Ehman is Professor of Radiology and the Erlanger Endowed Professor of Medical Research at Mayo Clinic. He received his MD from the University of Saskatchewan in Canada, residency at the University of Calgary and pursued fellowships at UCSF and the Mayo Clinic. He joined the Mayo Clinic staff in 1985.
Dr, Ehman is known for his contributions in clinical practice, research, and leadership. He was deeply involved in the early exploration of body, cardiovascular and musculoskeletal imaging applications of MRI and he led the clinical Body MRI practice at the Mayo Clinic through years of rapid growth. His NlH-funded research program has focused on developing new imaging technologies. As an inventor, he holds more than 40 US patents. His inventions, which include magnetic resonance elastography and methods for reducing MRI motion and flow artifacts, are widely used in clinical radiology practice.
He has served as chair of the Radiology Study Section of the NIH and on the National Advisory Council of NlBlB. He has been awarded Gold Medals for his contributions by the international Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, the Asian Oceanian Society of Radiology, the Society of Advanced Body Imaging, and the Radiological Society of North America. He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors and is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine. He has served as president of the ISMRM, the Academy for Radiological and Biomedical Imaging Research, the Society for Advanced Body Imaging, and the Radiological Society of North America.
