Jingfeng Bai
Jingfeng Bai
Dr. Jingfeng Bai is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering. He received his Ph.D. degree in Precision Instrumentation and Mechanics from Harbin Institute of Technology in 2001. From 2002 to 2003, he worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow studying physical techniques for tumor therapy at the Biomedical Instrumentation Research Institute in the Department of BME, SJTU. His current research focuses on therapeutic ultrasound, design of intelligent medical instrument, and the standards of medical devices.
D. M. Czajkowsky
D. M. Czajkowsky

Dr. Daniel M. Czajkowsky is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering and a member of the Bio-ID center. He obtained his B.Sc. in Physics (Honors) from the University of Alberta, Canada and his Ph.D. degree in Biophysics from the University of Virginia, US. He then worked at the University of Virginia as a Research Associate, when he was awarded a Young International Fellowship from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2010. With this fellowship, he did his research at Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics until 2012. He was appointed as a special investigator at SJTU in 2013 and professor in 2019. Dr. Czajkowsky has published over 85 journal articles in journals including those in Nature Communications, PNAS, ACS Nano, Advanced Materials, JACS, and EMBO Mol Med, the latter of which is one of the most highly cited papers (top 1%) in Clinical Medicine according to the Web of Science.


There are two main directions of the research in his group: structure/function studies of large bio-complexes, including chromatin, and the development of novel single-molecule based instrumentation. For the former, there are projects focused on (1) the mechanisms by which chromosomes fold within the nucleus and the functional consequences of that folding on transcription, replication and genomic stability; (2) the mechanisms by which bacterial pore-forming toxins self-assemble into membrane spanning complexes and exploiting these pores for novel biotechnological applications; and (3) the development of a novel polymeric Fc-fusion protein complex for clinical applications. For the latter direction, there are projects focused on the development of (1) a novel cryo-atomic force microscope for biological applications and (2) a unique multiplex magnetic tweezers device for studies of protein-protein interactions as well as mechano-phenotyping of cells as tissues for clinical applications.

Xinyu Chai

Dr. Xinyu Chai is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering. He received his Ph.D. degree in BME from Xi'an Jiao Tong University in 1998. From 2001 to 2010, he was an Associate Professor and Professor of SJTU Department of BME. The main research interests in his group include: Neural engineering; artificial visual prostheses; visual psychophysics; brain intrinsic optical imaging; and photoacoustic tomography.
 Yao Chen
Yao Chen
Dr. Yao Chen is Professor of Biomedical Engineering. His research interests include: Neuronal mechanism of brain cognition functions, such as visual attention, learning and memory; visual function recovery and visual prosthesis; neural information processing in brain-machine interface; and new methods and techniques for visual information processing in the brain. He studied neuronal mechanism of visual attention by training monkeys to do attention tasks in different difficulties, and recording neuronal activity in visual cortex with chronically implanted micro-electrode array. His findings were reported as a cover story in Nature Neuroscience. 
Xianting Ding
Xianting Ding

Dr. Xianting Ding is Distinguished Full Professor at School of Biomedical Engineering, Deputy Director of Institute for Personalized Medicine, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He received his Ph.D. degree from Department of Mechanical Engineering at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2012. His research interests focus on developing Personalized Therapy and Precision Medicine, including: 1) single cell protein analysis based on CyTOF, IMC, Single-Cell Western Blot technologies; 2) developing personalized optimization therapeutics based on AI-Medicine, Microfluidics and Bio-MEMS.

 

He participated in the early investigation and development for 3 international research centers, including Institute for Cell Mimetic Space Exploration (CMISE, funded by NASA), Center for Cell Control (CCC, funded by NIH) and Institute for Personalized Medicine (IPM, funded by Chinese Central Organization Department). He is now leading 16 related international projects. He is the editorial board member for MINE, Scientific Reports and SLAS Technology, guest editor for CNS & Neurological Disorders - Drug Targets, Current Medicinal Chemistry, Combinatorial Chemistry & High Throughput Screening, Mini-Reviews in Organic Chemistry, Current Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Current Topics in Medicinal Chemistry, Anti-Cancer Agents in Medicinal Chemistry. 


He has published over 150 SCI journal papers, including Nature, Science Advances, Advanced Materials, Advanced Functional Materials, Biosensors & Bioelectronics, Genome Biology, Analytical Chemistry, Biofabrication, Nature Communications, PNAS, Nature Protocols. He has filed over 70 national and international patents.

He was professor in Radiology and Psychiatry and Technical Director of Brain Imaging Center at University of Colorado School of Medicine from 2002-2009.
Jun Fang
Jun Fang

Dr. Jun Fang is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). He obtained a joint Ph.D. training (CSC Scholarship) from Donghua University (State Key Laboratory for Modification of Chemical Fibers and Polymer Materials) and University of Pittsburgh, and received his Ph.D. degree of Biomimetic Materials in 2015 under the supervision of Prof. Xiumei Mo and Prof. William R. Wagner. From 2016 to 2021, he was a postdoctoral research fellow and an assistant project scientist with Prof. Song Li at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). His current research interests include biomaterials, micro/nano manufacturing, stem cells, cell reprogramming, immune engineering, soft electronics and regeneration medicine. 

Xiaoxia Fang
Xiaoxia Fang
Research Associate, Doctor of Philosophy, Master Tutor. Her primary research interests are in the development of microfluidic platform for multiplex applications relevant to medicine. She is particularly interested in the research of microsphere/cell manipulating and droplet generation technology based on microfluidic chip, as well as the development of multi-digital detection microfluidic platform for biomarkers analysis. Other work focuses on the sample purification based on material surface interact to understand the actions, interactions, and distribution of biomolecules. She has undertaken a number of projects funded by National Natural Science Foundation of China, Interdisciplinary Program of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and so on.
Yuan Feng
Yuan Feng

Dr. Feng obtained his bachelor's and master's degrees from Harbin Institute of Technology in 2006 and 2008, respectively. He earned a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis with Drs. Philip Bayly and Guy Genin. His postdoctoral training was at Washington University School of Medicine with Dr. Yanle Hu in 2013, and at the University of Texas at Austin with Dr. Michael Sacks in 2014. He was a faculty member at Soochow University from late 2014 to 2017. Since 2018 he moved to Shanghai Jiao Tong University and joined the School of Biomedical Engineering. He has established an electromagnetic MR elastography system and promoted its clinical application, developed real-time MRI-guided interventional imaging methods applied to robotic-assisted brain interventions, and established theories and methodologies based on biomechanics for brain science and brain disease research. Dr. Feng has published 46 journal articles, holds 13 authorized invention patents, and has undertaken 2 National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) General Programs, 1 Excellent Young Scientist Fund Program, and 1 subproject of the National Key Research and Development Program. His primary research interests are brain biomechanics and magnetic resonance imaging.

Prof. Wei-Qiang Gao received his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1989 and did his post-doctoral research at Columbia University and the Rockefeller University. From 1993-2010. He had been a Scientist, Senior Scientist and Group/Project Leader at Genentech, Inc.. Dr. Gao has made important contributions to the fields of neuroscience, stem cells and tumorigenesis. In early 1990’s, he made important contributions to the mechanisms of cerebellar granule neuronal differentiation. His group then pioneered research on development and regeneration of inner ear hair cells at Genentech and changed the traditional view that mammalian inner ear hair cells cannot regenerate. He was invited to speak at the Nobel Conference “To Restore Hearing” organized by the Karolinska Institute in Sweden in 2002. More recently, his group worked on “stem cells and tissue regeneration” and “cancer research and cancer stem cells” and published a paper in Nature in 2008 to report for the first time that a single adult stem cell is capable of generating a functional prostate organ. Dr. Gao has published 58 papers as either corresponding or the first author, including Nature, Cell, Science, Neuron, Nature Neuroscience, Nature Communications, Gastroenterology, PNAS, etc. and has been granted 48 US patents. He is a scholar of national “Thousand-Talents Program”, a recipient of ‘”Overseas Outstanding Young Investigators” award from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the Chief Scientist of a program project from the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and a key grant from the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He has served as a reviewer for grant proposals of Wellcome Trust in UK, NIH in US, and NSFC and 36 journals including Nature, Nature Medicine, Nature Cell Biology, Nature Communications, Cancer Cells, PNAS, ect..

Hongchen Gu
Hongchen Gu

Dr. Hongchen Gu is Associate Dean of SJTU School of BME. He received his Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering in 1992 from East China University of Science and Technology. From 1994 to 1995, he was a visiting professor at Pennsylvania State University. From 2008 until now, Dr. Gu served as the Dean of Nano-biomedical Research Center at School of BME.

Dr. Gu’s research interest lies in controlled synthesis of nanomaterials, surface modification and its applications in biomedical science. In recent years, his research on nanomaterials for diagnostics and therapy of important diseases has reached meaningful results. Several achievements have already been transformed to clinic successfully. Dr. Gu and his group has published more than 200 academic articles and applied for more than 30 patents.

Bobo Gu
Bobo Gu

Dr. Bobo Gu received his Ph.D. degree in Optical Engineering from Zhejiang University in 2012. After postdoctoral training at the Nanyang Technological University, he joined Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2017, where he is currently an Associate Professor in the School of Biomedical Engineering. His research focuses on the design and synthesis of functional inorganic and organic nanomaterials and exploration of their applications in sensing, imaging, and therapy.

Lixu Gu
His research interests include Pattern Recognition, Computer Vision, Medical Image Analysis, Computer Graphics&Virtual Reality, Image guided Surgery and Therapy. Dr.Gu is the authorof over 200 papers on related research area, and isa senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE);the social chair and PC member of the 27th IEEE EMBS conference in Shanghai. He was awarded the best poster in the 17th congress of computer assisted radiology and surgery (CARS) in London, UK, in 2003. He served as an associate editor for both the IEEE Trans. On Information Technology in Biomedicine and the International Journal of Computer Assisted Radiology and Surgery. He is also active in the international research groups of ISBI, MIAR, ITAB and EMBC.

Dr. Xiaoli Guo is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering. She received her Ph.D. degrees in Biomedical Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2008, and then worked as an Assistant Professor. Her research interests include neural plasticity and rehabilitation after neural injury, such as stroke, amputation and Parkinson's Disease.

Dr. Yan Guo is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering. She obtained her Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from SJTU in 2005. She has worked as a faculty member of SJTU since 2005. From 2009, she became an Associate Professor of SJTU. Her research interests include: Molecular mechanism during the development of gastric cancer; transcription network of organogenesis; and new technologies in single cell system biology.
GUO Yao
GUO Yao
Dr. Yao Guo received his B.S. degree in automation and M.S. degree in communication and information system from Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, China in 2011 and 2014, respectively. He earned his Ph.D. degree in robotic vision from the City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong in 2018. His postdoctoral training was at the Hamlyn Centre for Robotic Surgery, Imperial College London, London, UK from 2018 to 2020. 

Since 2020, he has been the tenure-track Assistant Professor with the Institute of Medical Robotics, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China. His main research interests include robotic vision, gait analysis, rehabilitation and assistive robotics, human-machine interaction, and machine learning algorithms in healthcare applications. He received the Best Conference Paper Award at the IEEE ICMA 2016, and the Candidate of the Best Cognitive Robotics Award at the IEEE IROS 2023.

Dr. Hao He is currently an associate professor on Biophotonics. He got the B.S. from the Special Class for the Gifted Young in the University of Science and Technology of China. In 2010, he got the PhD degree from the department of Electronics Engineering in the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Since 2011, he worked as an associate professor in the Ultrafast laser Laboratory in the College of Precision Instrument and Optoelectronics Engineering in Tianjin University. Since 2014, he moved to the school of Biomedical Engineering in Shanghai Jiao Tong University. His research focuses on the precise stimulation and modulation of cellular signaling and functions by femtosecond lasers, novel microscopy systems, and applications of such technologies in vivo. Currently he has published more than 30 SCI papers as the first or corresponding author, two on Nature Photonics, one on Nature communications, one on LPR, and two highlighted by Nature Photonics. His research is supported by the NSFC funding, and awarded as the JSPS oversea fellowship. He was invited as the Global Science Course (GSC) Lectureship, and a member of ImPACT project supported by the Japan Cabinet office.

Chenxi Hu

Dr. Chenxi Hu is a Tenure-Track Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). Hu earned his Bachelor degree in 2009 in Electrical Engineering at Hunan University, Hunan, China, and subsequently went to the USA to pursue a PhD in Electrical Engineering at Auburn University in Alabama. During the time, he also completed a Master degree in Applied Mathematics. In 2015, Hu started his postdoctoral training with Professor Dana Peters at the Department of Radiology in Yale School of Medicine. Dr. Hu joined SJTU in June 2019. The primary research focus of Dr. Hu has been on development of novel MRI techniques, including advanced pulse sequences, image reconstruction algorithms, and intelligent image processing methods to improve clinical value and cost-effectiveness of cardiac MRI. Hu has published more than 10 peer-reviewed papers as the first/corresponding author and more than 30 scientific abstracts, and served as a reviewer for several major MRI and clinical imaging journals. Hu is the Winner of 2018 ISMRM W. S. Moore Young Investigator Award, based on his work on improving motion robustness of the dark-blood turbo-spin-echo sequence. Hu is a member of ISMRM and SCMR (Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance).

Dr Hu Haibo received his B.S. degree and M.S. degree in Department of precision instrument from Harbin Institute of Technology in 1995 and 1997, received his Ph.D. degree in biomedical engineering from Shanghai Jiaotong University. He leads a team to design and develop the system of PACS, implemented in above 600 hospitals, and win Third Prize of Shanghai Municipal Science & Technological Advancement Award.
Qiu Huang

Qiu Huang received her Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Utah and postdoctoral training at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Since July 2009, she has been with the School of Biomedical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. She is also an Adjunct professor at the Department of Nuclear Medicine, Ruijin Hospital. She has been involved in a number of research projects and has co-authored more than 80 scientific papers and 10 patents. Her research interests involve (1) nuclear medicine imaging instrumentation design. For instance, her team developed a fully wearable brain PET system and is planning to investigate mental diseases and functions with this novel system. (2) imaging algorithm design, including the dynamic PET and SPECT reconstruction algorithms for early diagnosis of diseases.  (3) image processing and analysis, for example developing deep learning methods in image reconstruction and in radiom

Tianqi HUANG
Tianqi HUANG

    Assistant Professor on Tenure-Track at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.from Tsinghua University in 2020 and conducted postdoctoral research. Joined Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2024. Main research interests include light field 3D display, augmented reality, and surgical navigation, focusing on the development of novel light field 3D displays and medical-oriented 3D display systems, achieving a series of breakthroughs in medical education, surgical navigation, and remote surgery. In recent years, published over 30 papers in international journals in the fields of 3D display or biomedical engineering, such as Optics Express, Journal of Biomedical Informatics, International Journal of Computer Assisted Radiology and Surgery, or at top international conferences in computer science such as IEEE VR and ISMAR, winning four international conference best paper awards or best student paper awards, and holding nine related invention patents. Principal investigator of the National Natural Science Foundation of China's Youth Fund and Postdoctoral Science Foundation, participated in five national key projects, including the National Major Scientific Research Instrument Development Project and the National Key R&D Program.

Ji Xiang

Dr. Ji received the BEng and PhD degrees in biomedical engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), Shanghai, China, in 2005 and 2012, respectively. He has been with School of Biomedical Engineering in SJTU since July 2012, focusing on the clinical translation of therapeutic ultrasound. He participated in the design, development, regulatory certification and clinical verification of a B-mode ultrasound-guided high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) phased array system for treatment of uterine fibroid from 2013 to 2019. From 2020 to 2021, he worked in Inserm in France as postdoctoral researcher, focusing on trans-esophageal ultrasound-guided HIFU for arrhythmia treatment. He is member of Youth Committee of Shanghai Society of Engineering in Medical Ultrasound.

Yani Kang
Yani Kang joined Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2010. During the past few years, she has being involved in developing and applying cutting-edge high throughput genomic technologies to explore genome function.Her research interests include: 1) Mechanism of antitumor drugs; 2) Epigenetics in stem cell; 3)Transcriptional network in tumor cell. She has published more than 20 papers and carried out several projects by NSFC, 973 Program and SATCM foundations as a key staff or major participant.

Dr. Li Li is a professor and PhD supervisor in School of Biomedical Engineering.

He has published more than 40 SCI papers in Nat Genet, Cancer CellNat Cell BiolGutHepatology, Nat Commun (x4), Genes Dev, PNAS, et al, including 30 papers as first or corresponding author (Total IF > 310).   Dr. Liming Li received her PhD degree in biomedical engineering from Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College in 1998. Since April 1998, Dr. Li had been a Postdoctoral Fellow of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Sciences (JSPS) at Kyushu Institute of Technology, Japan, and a foreigner scientist at the University of Tokyo. From 2007-2015, she had been an associated professor in Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and has become a professor since 2016. Her research has been supported by Shanghai Pujiang Program and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. She is also a PI of the National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program). She has published about 80 peer-reviewed journal papers and conference proceedings, and three international book chapters. Her main research directions include neural engineering,neural prostheses and rehabilitation of neural functions, brain mechanisms of electrical stimulation to neural systems and its medical application, neural informatics.

Dr. Wanlu Li is the tenure-track Assistant Professor at Biomedical Engineering School, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. She received her B.S. degree from Jilin University in 2015, and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Dr. Li worked in Harvard Medical School as a visiting student and postdoctoral researcher (2018-2022). Since Aug 2022, she has been the tenure-track Assistant Professor at Biomedical Engineering School, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Dr. Li’s research is focused on innovating 3D bioprinting technologies to recreate functional tissues and their biomimetic models towards applications in precision medicine. She has published over 30 papers in peer-reviewed journals, including Nature Communications, Advanced Materials, Aggregate, Advanced Healthcare Materials, and Biofabrication. Dr. Li received the Junior Investigator Award and Award for Scientific Excellence  at International Stroke Conference 2019 and International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR) conference 2020.

Dr. Xiaowei Li is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering. He received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering in 2007 from the University of Virginia. From 2007 to 2008, he worked in the Department of Electrical Engineering of University of Virginia as a Research Associate. He joined Shanghai Center for Systems Biomedicine in 2008 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2010. He has co-authored 30 peer-reviewed papers including a cover paper in Journal Physical Chemistry A. He has had 11 patents and received grants from major funding agents including NSFC. The main research interests of his group include: super-resolution optical imaging, tissue clearing and 3D imaging.
Yao Li

Yao Li is the Professor and Assistant Dean of the School of Biomedical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), China. Her research is in the general area of brain mapping, with a focus on multimodal brain imaging and its clinical applications. She is particularly interested in high-resolution magnetic 3D resonance spectroscopic imaging and its applications in brain disorders including stroke, brain tumor, Alzheimer's disease and psychiatric disorders. She has published over 100 papers in prestigious journals such as Science, Brain, IEEE Trans. Biomed. Eng. and Brain Stimulation. Dr. Li received the Outstanding Young Faculty Award from SJTU in 2016, the Fei-Xiang Young Faculty Talent Award from the Shanghai Association for Science and Technology in 2015. She received the best paper award (First place) in IEEE EMBC 2021 and multiple ISMRM Summa Cum Laude Awards and ISMRM Magna Cum Laude Awards in 2019 and 2021. Dr. Li is the associate editor of BMC Neuroscience. She is the senior member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), member of International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) and member of Organization of Human Brain Mapping (OHBM). She is also the member of Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering Foreign Affairs Committee and member of Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine Brain Imaging Technical Committee. Dr. Li was a charter member of the IEEE-EMBS Shanghai Chapter serving as the Secretary of the Founding Committee, which won the IEEE-EMBS Best New Chapter Award in 2013. She played a major role in the organization of the IEEE-EMBS International Summer School on Neural Engineering held in Shanghai biannually since 2013. Dr. Li has also served as Organizing Committee member, Session Chair and Program Chair for a number of scientific meetings, including the Frontiers of Biomedical Imaging Symposium held in Shanghai in 2017.

Guan Ning Lin
Guan Ning Lin

Guan Ning Lin, a full Professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and a researcher PI of Shanghai Mental Health Center. Currently, he is the Deputy Director of the Engineering Research Center of Digital Medicine, Ministry of Education (ERCDM) and the Deputy Director of Imaging, Computing, and Systems Biomedicine at the School of Biomedical Engineering, Jiao Tong University. He was selected as the "Shanghai Oriental Scholar (Distinguished Professor)" by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission in 2016, and recieived the National Natural Science Foundation Research Fund for Foreign Outstanding Young Scholars in 2022 and other grants. He main research interests are combining clinical genomics data with AI language model to predict disease occurrence and early warming, mining pathogenic mutations for diagnostic and therapeutic biomarkers.

Ping Liu
Ping Liu
Dr. Ping Liu is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering. She received her Ph.D. degree in BME from SJTU in 2005. In 2008, Dr. Liu became an Associate Research Professor of SJTU Med-X Research Institute. Dr. Liu has been an Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering since 2011. From 2009 to 2010, she worked as a Visiting Scholar at Argonne National Laboratory (USA). Her major research interest is synchrotron radiation-based medical imaging.
Jie Luo
Jie Luo

Jie Luo, PhD, Associate Professor, School of Biomedical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. She has received her BS in Chemistry from Peking University, and her PhD in Chemistry from Washington University in St. Louis. In 2013, she joined Research Lab of Electronics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a postdoctoral fellow, and in 2015, the Fetal-Neonatal Neuroimaging and Developmental Science Center (FNNDSC) at Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School as a research fellow. 

Her research centers around metabolic and physiological imaging approaches, and fusion of multimodality data with clinical applications in neurological diseases, such as metabolic imaging for drug-resistant epilepsy using PET/MRSI. Dr. Luo has received grant support from the Ministry of Science and Technology, National Science Foundation, the Shanghai Sailing Program as well as Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Dr. Luo has been a member of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) and Overseas Chinese Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (OCSMRM) since 2009, and was awarded Junior Fellow of the ISMRM Society. She serves as ad-hoc reviewer for peer-reviewed journals such as IEEE-TMI, European Radiology, NMR in Biomedicine, Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, etc.

Bin Ma
Bin Ma, PhD, Associate Professor. He obtained his Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences in 2005 at Lanzhou University, China, and his Master's degree in Medical Pharmaceutical Sciences with honor (cum laude) in 2007 at University of Groningen, The Netherlands. In 2012, Bin Ma completed his PhD at University of Twente, The Netherlands, and won the 2011 Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-financed Students Abroad. From 2013 to 2015, he performed his postdoctoral research at University of Zurich and University Children's Hospital Zurich, Switzerland. In October 2015, Dr. Ma joined the School of Biomedical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. In 2016, he won the title of Shanghai Young Eastern Scholar.

钱大宏 Dahong Qian

Dr. Dahong Qian is a professor in Biomedical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He had held various engineering and management positions at Analog Devices and OmniVision, etc. From 2013 to 2017, he was a professor at Zhejiang University Medical School. His research areas include AI in medicine and medical data processing, medical microelectronics and micro sensors.


Kun Qian
Kun Qian

Prof. Dr. Kun Qian

BS/MS at Fudan University, PhD at University of Queensland, Research Fellow at Stanford University. He is now a principle investigator (PI) at School of Biomedical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. His research interests and efforts are focused on the development and commercialization of ultra-sensitive and high-throughput bio-analytical methods and mass spectrometry techniques towards large-scale clinical use through design, synthesis, and engineering of materials and devices. He has co-authored over 60 peer-reviewed articles in top international journals, including Cell et al. Dr. Qian has attracted grants from top research programs (e. g. from NSFC) and received several prestigious domestic/international awards for research excellence. He held several key patents and had strong connections with domestic and international industry partners.

Xiaohua Qian
Xiaohua Qian

Xiaohua Qian, Ph.D., joined the BME at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2018 as an Associated Professor. Before joining SJTU, Qian worked at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston as an Assistant Professor and worked at Wake Forest University’s School of Medicine as a Research Fellow. 

Dr. Qian received his Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering from Jilin University School of Electronic Science and Engineering in December 2012. During his doctoral program, he was awarded a full scholarship from the China Scholarship Council and got his academic training on Medical imaging analysis at Duke University Medical Center for two years.

Binjie Qin
Binjie Qin

Dr. Binjie Qin received the M.Sc. degree in Measuring and Testing Technologies and Instruments from Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Nanjing, and the Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China, in 1999 and 2002, respectively. He was a Lecturer and then Associate Professor at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, School of Life Sciences and Biotechnology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China. From Aug. 2012 to Aug. 2013, He was a visiting professor at Department of Computer Science, University College London, U.K. He is currently an Associate Professor with the School of Biomedical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He has served a reviewer for nearly thirty journals including IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems, Medical Image Analysis, Pattern Recognition, IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics, IEEE/CAA Journal of Automatica Sinica, Bioinformatics, IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control, IEEE Signal Processing Letters, Physics in Medicine and Biology. He is a leading guest editor of “Cerebral vessel extraction: from image acquisition to machine learning” in Frontiers in Neuroscience (2021). He was awarded as an outstanding reviewer of Pattern Recognition (2018) and Journal of Shanghai Jiaotong University (2020). His group have developed image-guided ENT surgery system and bioluminescence & fluorescence imaging system that are successfully used in real applications. His research has been supported by the grants from National Natural Science Foundation of China, Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and some companies. The main research interests in his group include: biomedical imaging, image processing, machine learning, computer vision and biomedical instrumentation. Over the past years, his group’s research has focused on challenging problems on weak signal detection such as vessel extraction from X-ray coronary angiography for minimally invasive vascular interventions and integrated system development for biomedical applications such as bioluminescence &multi-spectral fluorescence imaging.

Biography

Guangyu Qiu received his Master degree in 2014 and and Ph. D degree in 2017 from City University of Hong Kong. His main research interests cover cross-disciplinary fields such as optical biosensing technologies, plasmonics, nanophotonics, functional nanomaterials, and their life science, environmental and biochemical applications. He has authored more than 35 SCI papers published in leading peer-reviewed journals in the past five years, including one ESI “highly cited paper” and one ESI “hot paper”. His research works also led to four international patents.

Dr. Hanyu Rao is an Assistant Professor (Research) in School of Biomedical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He obtained B.S. degree in Life Science in 2015 from Hubei University, and Ph.D. degree in Oncology in 2021 from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Then he joined School of Biomedical Engineering in Shanghai Jiao Tong University and worked as an Assistant Professor (Research) in 2021. He focused on the important role and mechanism of cancer-related genes in tumorigenesis. In recent years, he has published several papers in mainstream SCI journals in the field of cancer, and has authorized one Chinese invention patent. He has participated in the cooperative research project between Shanghai Jiaotong University and the University of Sydney, and visited the school of Biomedical Engineering, the University of Sydney, Australia in 2019. He has successively participated in 6 scientific research projects, including key projects and general projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and Shanghai Science and Technology Commission.


Zhifeng Shao

Dr. Zhifeng Shao is a K.C. Wong Chair Professor at SJTU, and Associate Director at Zhiyuan Innovative Research Center (ZIRC) at SJTU. In 1982, he was selected to enter the CUSPEA program organized by T.D. Lee through competitive examinations. He received his Ph.D. degree in Physics in 1988 from University of Chicago.  Professor Shao was a faculty member in Physiology and Biophysics at University of Virginia from 1989-2009 (Full Professor in 1998; Professor Emeritus in 2010). He was elected as AAAS Fellow in 2000 and AIMBE Fellow in 2016. He was also a holder of a Nationally Appointed Professor by the PRC. Professor Shao served as the Dean of Shanghai Center for Systems Biomedicine from 2009 to 2013, and was an Associate Dean of SJTU School of BME from 2013-2019 and the Director of the BME Postdoctoral Fellow Program. Professor Shao had served on many US review panels, including NSF and NIH study sections, as well as review panels in China. His group has published more than 180 peer reviewed articles in multiple disciplines, such as single molecule biophysics, functional genomics, structural biology and bio-instrumentaiton. Professor Shao also serves on several editorial boards, such as Journal of Microscopy and Biosciences Trends, and is an associate editor for Nanomedicine NBM.

Research interest including: Artificial Intelligence, Image Processing, Optimization, Automatic Control, Parallel Computation, Wireless Communication. Have been working on Chemical Exchange Saturation Transfer imaging, Arterial Spin Label imaging, and motion correction algorithms. Implement deep learning and compressed sensing algorithm to accelerate MRI imaging to reach real-time dynamic free-breath MRI. Dr. Feng Shen is a tenure associate professor in School of Biomedical Engineering, Med-X Research Institute, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Dr. Shen received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Chicago. After graduation, he continued worked at the University of Chicago as Postdoc researcher. In 2011, he co-founded SlipChip Corporation to commercialize SlipChip technology, which he co-invented previously. In company, he served as director of research and development and PI/co-PI for grants from NIH. His work has been published on JACS, Analytical Chemistry, Lab on a Chip, PNAS, etc. He has a broad interest in new microfluidic platforms for diagnostics and life science research, including but not limited to, digital nucleic acid amplification, single cell analysis, liquid biopsy, cancer immunotherapy, integrated point-of-care systems.

Dr. Guofeng Shen is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering. After he received his Ph.D. degree in Instrumentation Science and Technology from Harbin Institute Technology in 2004, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow studying High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) in SJTU, under the guidance of Academician Yazhu Chen. Since 2006, he has been an Associate Professor of SJTU. From 2011 to 2012, he worked as a Visiting Associate Professor in the Focused Ultrasound Laboratory of the Department of Radiology, Harvard Medical School. His research interests include development of a new generation of MRI-guided phased high-intensity focused ultrasound (P-HIFU); ultrasound for local thermo-chemotherapy; and perfusion thermo-chemotherapy etc.

Dr. Ping Song is the Associate Professor of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Dr. Song received her Ph.D. degree from Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics in Chinese academy of sciences. Then Dr. Song worked in Rice University as a postdoctoral researcher for one year and then was promoted to be a senior research scientist for four years. At the same time, Dr. Song part-time worked in NuProbe Inc as a senior research scientist and took charge in multiple projects. Dr. Song’s interesting research areas including: 1) programming nucleic acid probes design and cancer precision diagnosis; 2) cancer diagnosis and monitoring using novel genome and transcriptome profiling technologies ; 3) DNA information storage and molecular information systems. She has published many papers in top journals like Nature Biomedical Engineering, Nature Communications, Nature Protocols, Cancer Discovery, Nano Letters et al. In addition, Dr. Song focuses on commercialization of scientific and research findings. She has many Chinese patents, American patents, and international patents and some of the patents were licensed to company to be developed as kits.
Xiaohong Sui

Dr. Xiaohong Sui received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in Microelectronics and Solid-State Electronics from Xi’an University of Technology, Xi’an, China, in 2001 and 2004, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in Microelectronics and Solid-State Electronics from Institute of Semiconductors, Chinese Academy of Sciences. From 2007 to 2011, she was a Lecturer at Department of Biomedical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. She was a Lecturer at School of Biomedical Engineering, SJTU from 2011 to 2014. From 2014 to 2015, she was a visiting assistant professor at Department of Biomedical Engineering, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, USA. Currently, she is an associate professor at School of Biomedical Engineering. Her research interests include neural rehabilitation engineering, implantable MEMS-based neural electrodes, neural interface computational modeling, visual prosthesis, neural electrophysiological experiments, sensory feedback for movement rehabilitation, etc. She achieved SJTU-SMC Morning Star Excellent Young Scholar Awards in 2008 (C) and 2013 (B). She was the PI of one National Science Foundation of China project, two SJTU projects, and two sub-projects of the Key Project of Chinese National Programs for Fundamental Research and Development (973 Project). Dr. Sui published more than 30 academic articles in neurorehabilitation engineering related journals such as Journal of Neural Engineering, IEEE Transactions on Neural Systems and Rehabilitation Engineering, and Journal of NeuroEngineering and Rehabilitation, etc. She has been authorized 6 Chinese patents, and she also was the first author of one book chapter“Visual Prosthesis for Optic-Nerve Stimulation” in “Implantable Neural Prostheses 1: Devices and Applications”.

Dr. Jian-Qi Sun is a research professor. He received his Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering from SJTU in 2008.  Since 2008 he has worked in the Med-X Research Institute of SJTU. From 2012 to 2013, he worked as a postdoc visiting scholar in Paul Scherrer Institute, PSI (Switzerland). He has received funding from Natural Science Foundation of China and the SJTU Research Grant for Interdisciplinary Research. He is alsoa key member of a National ‘973’ Program Grant. His current research focuses at thermal physical therapy of cancer and synchrotron radiation-based medical imaging. Dr. Sun has been an awardee of the Second Prize of Natural Science Award from the Ministry of Education. He has co-authored more than 50 papers.

Junfeng Sun, PhD, is a full professor of biomedical engineering at School of Biomedical Engineering and Med-X Research Institute, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He gained his Bachelor Degree (Electronic Science and Information Systems) and the Master Degree (Acoustics) from Nanjing University, and Ph. D degree (Electronic and Information Engineering) from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He has been a Visiting Research Associate (08.2012 - 08.2013) at Department of Biomedical Engineering, University of Minnesota. He has been a tenure-track Associate Professor, tenured Associate Professor (2020-) at School of Biomedical Engineering, SJTU. He is IEEE Senior Member, Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Neural Systems & Rehabilitation Engineering (2022-) and Medical and Biological Engineering and Computing (2018-). He has published more than 80 papers in SCI journals. He is the principal investigator of grants from National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), Natural Science Foundation of Shanghai, and Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality. He is also the awardee of the SMC-Morning Star Award for Young Investigator, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, 2011. He instructs the course Biomedical Signal and System-I for undergraduate students and the course Neuromodulation techniques for graduated students.
Yaohui Tang

Dr. Yaohui Tang received his Ph.D. degree from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2014. After graduation, he worked as a postdoc at Max-Planck-Institute for biological cybernetics in Germany and Stanford University in U.S from 2014-2018. He has served as an assitant editor in Stroke and vascular neurology as well as editorial board member in many high impact journals (e.g Frontiers in cellular Neuroscience, Current stem cell research and therapy etc.). In 2018 he was recruited as a tenure track assistant professor in School of Biomedical Engineering, Med-X Research Institute, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and promoted to associate professor in 2022. Dr. Tang has a broad interest in stem cell and gene based therapy for ischemic stroke and tissue engineering. Currently he hostsThe National Key research and development program of China,  Young Scientists Fund of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Interdisciplinary program of Shanghai Jiao Tong University etc. His work has been published on Nature Communications, Advanced Science, AFM,Stroke, JCBFM, Stem cell reports etc, with more than 3700 citations and H-index as 33.

Shanbao Tong

Dr. Shanbao Tong received the B.S. degree in radio technology from Xi'an Jiao Tong University (Xi'an, China) in 1995, and M.S. degree in turbine machine engineering and Ph.D. degree in biomedical engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1998 and 2002 respectively. From 2000-2001, he was a research trainee in Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. From 2002-2005, he had postdoctoral training in Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. His Ph.D. dissertation was on EEG signal processing in brain injury following cardiac arrest, and was awarded the top 100 distinguished Ph.D. dissertations of China (2004). Dr. Tong joined Shanghai Jiao Tong University as associate professor in 2005 and has been full professor since 2009. He established the neural engineering laboratory. His research interests include multimodal neuroimaging techniques and brain rehabilitation, and transcranial ultrasound stimulation.

Dr. Tong is the founding chair of the IEEE EMBS Shanghai chapter which was awarded the Best New Chapter of IEEE EMBS (2013). He is also the founding chair of the IEEE EMBS international summer school of neural engineering. Dr. Tong was the associate editori of IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Neural Systems and Rehabilitation Engineering. He is currently the Editor in Chief of Medical & Biological Engineering & Computation, Co-Executive editor in Chief of Med-X journal, board member of the Chinese society of neural engineering and the Chinese society for bioelectronics.  He has served many IEEE EMBS conferences as session chair or co-chair (EMBC since 2005), international program committee (NER'13) or organization committee (NER'15), the conference chair of the 2017 IEEE EMBS international conference of neural engineering(NER'17). Theme Co-chair of IEEE EMBC since 2020.

Dr. Shengxian Tu is a distinguished professor at the School of Biomedical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the director of Cardiovascular Innovative Instrument and Intelligent Computing lab at biomedical instrument institute and director of Shanghai Jiao Tong University-Pulse Medical imaging joint lab. He is also a guest professor at Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, The Netherlands. He received his master degree in Biomedical Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2008. After that, he joined the Medis Applied Research group as a scientific researcher, while at the same time pursuing a PhD degree at the Division of Image Processing (LKEB), Department of Radiology, Leiden University Medical Center, the Netherlands. He graduated cum laude in February 2012. He joined Shanghai Jiao Tong University as a Faculty in 2014. He is the inventor of several patents including the methods for computation of fractional flow reserve from imaging data (QFR, OFR and UFR), which are being used for clinical decisions or studies by a number of hospitals in Europe, Asia, and America. Over the past few years he has published several articles in the leading cardiovascular journals such as Lancet, Eur Heart J, J Am Coll Cardiol, J Am Coll Cardiol Interv, and Circ Cardiovasc Interv. In 2014 he was accepted as a Fellow of European Society of Cardiology (FESC) and in 2017 he was accepted as a Fellow of American College of Cardiology (FACC). Currently, he serves as an associate editor of the International Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging and section editor of JACC: Asia. So far, he has coauthored more than 100 peer-reviewed papers and 30 patents.

Dr. Yao Wang is an associate professor in School of Biomedical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He obtained B.S. degree in Polymer Science and Engineering in 2010 from Nanjing University of Science and Technology, and Ph.D. degree in Materials Science and Engineering in 2016 from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Then he joined School of Biomedical Engineering in Shanghai Jiao Tong University and worked as an Assistant Professor (Research) in 2016. He has published a lot of papers as first/corresponding authors in related important journals, such as Adv. Mater., Small, Biomaterials, Chem. Mater., Nano Res., Nanoscale, Chem. Commun., and applied for 8 patents. His work has been supported by National Science Foundation of China, National Science Foundation of Shanghai, Shanghai Sailing Program, and Interdisciplinary program of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Dr. Yao Wang has ever obtained the Best Poster Award in International Conference on Functional Materials (2014, Shanghai). His recent research interests mainly include: 1) design of micro/nano-biomaterials with precise architectures for biomedical application, 2) ultrahigh-throughput encoded suspension arrays for multiplexed biodetection, and 3) non-isolated and digital biodetection method for ultrasensitive test of biomarkers.

 Dr. Hongjiang Wei is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering. He received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Lyon in France in 2014 and did the postdoc training at UC Berkeley. He has published more than 50 peer-reviewed papers in the past five years. He has led in the development of the very key quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) software package (STISuite), which are currently deployed in over 1000 research institutes worldwide. He has served as reviewers of several leading journals and academic conferences. His research focuses on MRI-based Quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM), ultrahigh resolution brain microstructure imaging, diffusion tensor imaging, medical image analysis, and deep learning. His interests also extend to other organs, e.g., liver iron quantification, cartilage degeneration disease susceptibility mapping,kidney disease imaging using magnetic susceptibility.

Weiliang Xia, Ph.D., is currently tenured full professor at School of Biomedical Engineering & Med-X Research Institute, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Dr. Xia obtained his doctoral degree from the University of Hong Kong in 2006, with predoctoral training at the Rockefeller University, followed by postdoctoral fellowship at University of California, San Francisco from 2007 to 2008. Dr. Xia has published over 130 papers in Science Translational Medicine, Cell Death & DifferentiationPNASOncogeneProtein Cell Biomaterials and etc.,  which have been cited over 10000 times with an H-factor of 50. He has been awarded the Rising Star Prize by Shanghai Science and Technology Commission, and is funded by National Natural Science Foundation of China and Ministry of Science and Technology.

Dr. Liqin Xiong is a tenured Associate Professor of School of Biomedical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. She received the bachelor's degree (2004) in Chemistry and Life Science from Gannan Normal University, the master's degree (2007) in Chemistry from Beijing Normal University, and the doctoral degree in Chemistry from Fudan University in July 2010. Dr. Xiong conducted postdoctoral research at Stanford University School of Medicine for period August 2010 to July 2012. She has published over 50 papers and citation times over 3000. Dr. Xiong has won the Dow Chemical Scholarship in 2009, Shanghai Pujiang Talent Program in 2013, and Li Lanxin Young Teacher Award in 2016. She instructs the course Molecular Imaging and Early Disease Detection for undergraduate students and the course Molecular Imaging and Probe for graduated students.

Dr. Hong Xu is a Professor at SJTU School of BME. Her research interests include preparation of composite nanoparticles with precisely controllable structures and functions as well as applications of functional nanomaterials for bio-detection and clinical uses. Dr. Xu has abundant experiences in surface modification of nanomaterials at molecule level. In recent years, she has successfully transformed several research achievements to clinic, published over 70 academic papers and applied more than 30 patents.

Dr. Lisa Xu is a Distinguished Professor and Acting Dean, SJTU School of BME, and Dean of Med-X Research Institute. Dr. Xu received her Ph.D. degree from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA, in 1991. She was on the faculty of the City University of New York, and promoted to associate professor with tenure in 1996. She then moved to Purdue University as a tenured associate professor in Mechanical Engineering in 1997 with a joint faculty position in Biomedical Engineering. Dr. Xu was  received the prestigious 'Outstanding Young Investigator Award' from Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) in 2007. She was the recipient of Natural Science Award from Chinese Ministry of Education in 2010. Her research has been supported by NCI and NSF in US, and NSFC and '973' and '863' national center grants from the Ministry of Science and Technology in China. She has published more than 150 peer reviewed journal articles and conference proceedings, as well as four book chapters. She is an ASME Fellow and AIMBE Fellow, and a senior member of IEEE. Professor Xu has served as the Chair of the Technical Program of the 2005' EMBS and an AdCom Member of EMBS in 2011. She has also served as Deputy Secretary for International Affairs of Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering since 2009, and President of Shanghai Society of Biomedical Engineering since 2010. Her research interests include molecular imaging, bio-thermal physics, and cancer diagnosis and therapy.

Dr. Yifei Yao is currently a tenure track associate professor on soft tissue biomechanics. He got the B.E. in Biomedical Engineering and B.S. in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2012. In 2016, he got the PhD degree from Biomedical Engineering in the Chinese University of Hong Kong under the supervision of Prof Arthur F.T. Mak. Since 2016, he worked as a postdoctoral research fellow in Cleveland Clinic, USA. Since 2019, he joined the School of Biomedical Engineering in Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Engineering Research Center of Digital Medicine and Clinical Translation. He also worked as a visiting scholar in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Sheffield University, UK. His research focuses on the cellular biomechanics, 送soft tissue biomechanics, multiscale finite element modeling, multimodal ultrasound imaging processing, biomaterials and rehabilitation engineering. His research motivation is to provide support to the prevention, diagnosis and intervention in diseases through multiscale biomechanics. He published over 30 SCI papers, including Journal of Biomechanics, NPG Asia Materials, Nanoscale, Clinical Biomechanics, Biomechanics and Modeling in Mechanobiology, Annals of Biomedical Engineering, Journal of Orthopaedic Translation. Dr Yao is a member of Orthopaedic Research Society, senior member of Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering, member of Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, member of Chinese Society for Biomaterials, and life member of World Association for Chinese Biomedical Engineers (WACBE). He serves as editorial member of Medicine in Novel Technology and Devices, and reviewer for IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering; Journal of the Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical Materials; Journal of Medical and Biological Engineering, Medical Engineering & Physics, Journal of Wrist Surgery,Mathematical Biosciences and Engineering. Dr. Jian Ye received the B.E. degree in 2000 and the M.S. degree in 2003 in polymer science and engineering from Zhejiang University, Zhejiang, China, and the Ph.D. degree in 2010 in chemistry from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KU Leuven), Leuven, Belgium. From 2003 to 2005, he was at Intel Products (Shanghai) Ltd. as a Material Engineer. From 2005 to 2010, he performed the Ph.D. research project in Interuniversity Microelectronics Centre (IMEC) vzw, Belgium. Since 2010, he has been a Postdoctoral Fellow of the Research Foundation–Flanders (FWO), KU Leuven. In 2011 (March–September), he was with the nanophotonics group of Prof. Naomi Halas at Rice University as a Visiting Scholar. He joined the Med-X Research Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University as a Special Research Professor in 2013. He has been involved in a number of industrial and European research projects and has authored or coauthored more  than 100 referred papers, 2 book chapter, and 10 patents. Dr. Ye has received the 2009 Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-Financed Students Abroad, the 2009 IMEC Scientific Excellence Award, and the Best Student Paper Award of 2010 International Conference on Nanophotonics (Japan).

Dr. Weihai Ying is a Professor and Associate Dean of SJTU School of BME. He received his Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in 1998. From 1998-2002, he conducted postdoctoral research at UCSF School of Medicine. From 2002-2008, he was an Assistant Neurobiologist/PI, then Assistant Professor (Step I–III) of the Department of Neurology, UCSF School of Medicine. He was also a Research Scientist/PI of Northern California Institute for Research and Education from 2003- 2008. He has had over 70 papers published in scientific journals such as PNAS and JBC, which have been cited over 2,600 times (Google Scholar). Dr. Ying has been the PIs of six research grants in US. Dr. Ying has also been the PIs of a number of research grants including '973' National Basic Research Center Grant (as a Group Leader), Chinese NSF grants, Shanghai 'Pujiang Scholar Award', and Shanghai Key Basic Research Grant since 2008 when he became a Professor of SJTU. He was an invited speaker and Session Chair in American Society of Neurosciences Annual Meetings, and has been Editors of both books and Special Edition of three SCI journals on neuronal injury. He has served as reviewers of NSFC grants and '973' National Basic Research Center Grants, and served as a regular member of the Study Section of American Heart Association. His research interests include: Mechanisms of neural cell death; roles of NAD in cell necrosis , apoptosis and autophagy ; new approaches for neuroprotection; roles of NAD-dependent enzymes, oxidative stress and inflammation in brain injury; and mechanisms underlying the biological effects of synchrotron radiation X-ray.

Dr. Aili Zhang is an Full Professor of Biomedical Engineering (with Tenure). Dr. Zhang received her Ph.D. degree from a joint program between the University of Science and Technology of China and Purdue University in 2003. Dr. Zhang has been an Associate Professor of SJTU since 2005. She has published more than 30 peer reviewed journal papers. She has also been named one of the 'Excellent Talents in Chinese Universities in the New Century'. Her research interests include: Modeling transport processes in various biological systems; nanoparticle transport in vivo; and thermal treatment of cancer.

Chunfu Zhang obtained his PhD degree in 2002 from Chinese Academy of Sciences (ACS). During the next two years, he became Assistant Professor/Associate Professor in Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics of CAS. In 2004, he joined German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) as a guest scientist. In 2007, he conducted postdoctoral study in UT Southwestern Medical Center. He joined the Med-X Research Institute, Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2008. Currently he is Professor in School of Biomedical Engineering, SJTU. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers, including Advanced Science, ACS Nano, Cancer Research, Biomaterials, Radiology, Advanced Functional Materials, ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces. My research interests mainly focus on multimodal molecular imaging probes for tumor theranostics and nuclear medicine for early diagnosis of cancers.

 Dr. Lichi Zhang is a tenure-track Associate Professor in the School of Biomedical Engineering. He received the Bachelor degree in Network Engineering from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications,  and the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from University of York, UK. Then he was working as a PostDoc researcher in Med-X Research Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and the BRIC of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He started to join School of Biomedical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2017. 

 

      Dr. Lichi Zhang's research field is computer vision and medical image analysis. His main focus is to incorporate artificial intelligence technologies such as machine learning and etc., to accomplish the multi-modal medical images' processing and analysis works: image segmentation, registration, extraction and selection of the anatomical and functional features from brain images, and computer-aided diagnosis. He has published about 100 journal and conference papers including IEEE TMI, Medical Image Analysis, Human Brain Mapping, Pattern Recognition, MICCAI and etc.

Dr. Pu-Ming Zhang received her bachelor's degree of Automation in Industry from Zhejiang University in 1997, and Ph.D. degree of Control Science and Engineering from Zhejiang University in 2002. She conducted post-doctoral research at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (2002-2003) before joining Department of Biomedical Engineering, SJTU in 2004 as an Associate Professor. Dr. Zhang is supported by many research agencies including the NSFC.

Shiyi Zhang has been a tenure track associate professor in the School of Biomedical Engineering at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University since 2016. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from Peking University in Beijing in 2008. After then, he started his Ph.D. study with Prof. Karen Wooley at the Washington University in St. Louis. His PhD research interests ranged from degradable polymer for nanomedicine to the polymer self-assembly for functional nanostructures. Upon the completion of his PhD research in 2013, he arrived at MIT as a Max-Planck Postdoctoral Fellow with Prof. Robert S. Langer, focusing the translational study for gastrointestinal drug delivery. Zhang’s research appears in more than forty articles in leading journals, including Nature Materials, Science Translational Medicine, Science Advances, Nature Communications, eLife, Journal of the American Chemical Society, ACS Nano, Advanced Materials, Advanced Functional Materials, Macromolecules and ACS Macro Letters, and results more than twenty patent applications. He also helped to build the biotech startup, Lyndra, to push the gastric retentive drug delivery system into Phase III clinical trial. He is the scientific founder of OnQuality Pharmaceuticals, a clinical stage biotech to develop innovative drugs that improve the quality of cancer patients’ lives. Dr. Zhang received 1000 Plan Program for Young Talents in 2015. His current research interests include: novel treatments for adverse effects caused by anti-cancer therapies and non-absorbable materials (polymeric or inorganic) as drugs for metabolic diseases.

Dr. Su Zhang is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering. She received her Ph.D. degree in Automatic Control from Northwestern Polytechnical University in 2000, and subsequently worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow of SJTU Institute of Image Processing & Pattern Recognition from 2000-2002. Since 2002, she has worked at SJTU Institute of Biomedical Instrumentation led by Academician Yazhu Chen. She has been the PI of a regular grant from NSFC, and a grant for developing Key Laboratory from Chinese Ministry of Education. She has also been a key member in multiple major program grants. Dr. Zhang has cooperated with the investigators from Hong Kong Polytechnic University, City University of Hong Kong, Virginia Tech (USA), and Creatis-LRMN (France). Her main research interests include: Biomedical image processing and pattern recognition; image-guided therapy; and computer-aided diagnosis and analysis.

Dr. Yan Zhang is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering. She received her M.D. degree from Shandong Medical University in 1999, and her Ph.D. degree from Shandong University in 2005. She conducted post-doctoral research at NYU and Weill Cornell Medical College from 2005 to 2012. She has published more than 20 research papers including 5 SCI papers as first author. Currently she is the PI of two grants from NSFC (Youth Fund Project and General Project) and one grant from SJTU. The main research interests of her group include: Tumor immunology; tumor immunoescape; and the role of cytokines and chemokines in the development of tumor and autoimmune diseases.

Yaoyu Zhang received her B.S. degree in Biomedical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University in 2013, and her Ph.D. degree in Integrated Life Science (Physics) from Peking University in 2020. Right after graduation, she joined the Biomedical Engineering Department of Shanghai Jiao Tong University as a research assistant professor. Her research focuses on the application of multimodal magnetic resonance imaging techniques for understanding the flow and metabolic changes associated with prevalent diseases such as Alzheimer’s dementia and stroke.
Zhijun Zhang

Dr. Zhang, Zhijun, received her Ph.D. degree of Neuroscience from Shanghai Branch of Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute in 2008. She conducted post-doctoral research at the University of California, San Francisco and the University of Massachusetts Medical School (2009-2012). Up to now, she has published a number of papers in academic journals, such as Nature cell biology, Science, Neuron, PNAS, which have been cited over 7000 times.

Zhiyong Zhang

Dr. Zhiyong Zhang is currently an Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering. He received his B.S. (2010) and Ph.D. (2015) in Electronic Science from Xiamen University. From 2013 to 2015, he was a visiting scholar at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel, advised by Prof. Lucio Frydman. He continued as a Koshland Postdoctoral Fellow at the Weizmann Institute from 2015 to 2017 where he also received a VATAT fellowship and a Dean’s fellowship. From 2017 to 2019, he was a postdoctoral associate in Prof. Michael (Miki) Lustig’s group in the EECS Department at the University of California, Berkeley. In both 2016 and 2018, he was nominated as a Young Investigator Award Finalist by the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM). In 2019, Dr. Zhang was also recognized as a Junior Fellow by the ISMRM. He has published more than 30 peer-reviewed journal papers. He serves as a reviewer for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, Journal of Magnetic Resonance, and Scientific Reports. His research interests lie in the broad areas of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, spectroscopy sequence development, and signal and image processing. He is also interested in translating novel MR techniques into diagnostic medicine and clinical practice.

Dr. Jun Zhao is a Professor . He is the Director of the Medical Imaging and Informatics Area of the school. He received his Ph.D. degree in BME from SJTU in 2006. He was a visit scholar at University of Iowa, USA, in 2006-2007.

He received over 10 research grants from various sources. He has published over 150 journal articles and conference papers, including the first paper on exact triple-source cone-beam CT, and the first paper on virtual eversion of colon. He has over 20 patents. He is an Associate Editor for Computer Methods in Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering: Imaging & Visualization, and International Journal of Biomedical Imaging, and an Editor for International Journal of Imaging. His main research interests include: X-ray computed tomography; medical applications of synchrotron radiation; MRI and intelligent medical image processing.He has cooperated with many famous US universities, many famous hospitals, and many medical device companies. His students are very competitive in the job market.

Professor Cheng-Kung Cheng is the Chair Professor at the School of Biomedical Engineering, Director of the Imaging, Computational, and Systems Biomedicine Division, and Director of the Engineering Research Center for Digital Medicine of the Ministry of Education at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He was the President of the World Association for Chinese Biomedical Engineers(WACBE 2022-2024), President of the Chinese-speaking Orthopaedic Society (CSOS 2009-2012) and a Council Member of the World Congress Biomechanics (WCB 2002-2014), etc.

Professor Cheng is also the Executive Editor-in-Chief of Medicine in Novel Technology and Devices, Co-Executive-Editor-in-Chief of Med-X; and serve as Associate Editor and Editorial Board Member of Medical Engineering & Physics, SPINE, Clinical Biomechanics, Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, and Journal of Orthopaedic Translation, etc.

He is an elected fellow of both AIMBE and IAMBE. He received the Excellence in Clinical Science Award from the Orthopaedic Research Society of the USA and the Overseas Chinese Contribution Award from the Chinese Orthopaedic Association.

Professor Cheng’s primary research focuses on musculoskeletal biomechanics, orthopaedic implants, and innovative surgical technologies.

Dr. Yue ZHOU is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering. She graduated from School of life sciences, Fudan University. She received her MS in Microbiology from the Medical School of Jiaotong University and PhD in Biochemistry and Bioinformatics from the University of Massachusetts. She worked in Stanford University as a postdoctoral fellow before she joined the Med-X Research Institute and School of Biomedical Engineering in the beginning of year 2009. Her research specifically looks into the molecular mechanism of biochemical and biophysical regulation to vascular cells and host immune response to tissue engineering implants. Her research projects are funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology and National Natural Science Foundation of China. She has published over 40 papers in peer-reviewed journals including Biomaterials, Cancer Research, and Arteriosclerosis Thrombosis and Vascular Biology. She also teaches "Cell Biology" and "Introduction to Biomedical Science" to undergraduate students and "Scientific English Writing and Presentation" for graduate students.
